Is ERP Execution That Easy?

On hearing ERP implementation, people fear whether it would be successful or not. Such an integration is never quick or easy — however, it can be made hassle-free. The process can be made smooth by keeping some key principles in mind.

1. Do Not Overbuy the Software

Buy ERP as per your needs and not more than that. Always try to get a customised package that meets your needs. Your business should be able to grow into the ERP system — but make sure it is not overbought. If required, more can be added later depending on needs and the situation at hand.

2. Keep Important Factors in Mind

Estimate the number of users for the software. Cost is an important factor but not of prime importance. Training time and time spent on the project would help you judge the practicality of implementation. One cannot underestimate the resources and time it would take to make the project a thumping success — honest estimates are what work.

3. Reserve Extra Funds

In most cases, projects go over budget. Therefore, build some relaxation into your budget from the outset. A contingency buffer ensures that unforeseen costs do not derail the entire implementation.

4. Ensure Proper Training

Do not hand over the entire responsibility to the vendors. Make a realistic training schedule and ensure that your employees get enough training so they are comfortable with the new integration. Training plays a major role in the success of any ERP project.

5. Make Realistic Estimates

Transferring data to a new system is a time-consuming process. Enough time and resources should be allocated to handle it properly. Identify all sources of data to be transferred. Old data should not be migrated — just keep a backup of it. You can hire additional resources to make the migration process smooth.
